John 2:13-22 — Why do we follow and worship Jesus? Because he died for our sins on the cross? Because he loves us and saves us and sends his Spirit to comfort, guide and lead us? Because he transformed our lives from condemned messes of rebellion and sin into a flourishing delight in righteousness? All of these are praiseworthy acts, but if were to distill the answer down to a single point, we might say that we don’t worship Jesus for what he has done, but for what (or who) he was declared to be through what he has done.
