Ephesians 4:11–14
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
Without godly leaders, we are aimless and susceptible to danger from within and without. I believe God provides these leaders to his church readily and frequently. I also believe that Foundation Church is in desperate need of more godly leaders to help shepherd the flock and serve the church. But it’s not enough for me to simply put individuals forward – the best leaders are those who are recognized for their work and service to the Lord and his church. To this end, I am asking you to consider who you believe to be such an individual. You can do this by simply filling out the form below and hitting ‘Submit’. With this information, I’ll be able to see and possibly affirm what we all agree to be true: certain individuals whom God has placed in our church to lead and serve us.
There are a few parameters for your nominations.
First, your nominations for elders should be informed by what the Scripture commands for such individuals. Namely, that they are men who currently meet the qualifications for the office of elder as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. These men must also be current covenant members of Foundation Church.
Secondly, your nominations for deacons should likewise be informed by Scripture, and as outlined specifically in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. However, unlike the office of elder, it is the position and practice of Foundation Church to allow women to serve as deacons. So your nominations can include any current member of Foundation Church that you believe to be presently qualified for the office.
Lastly, you may nominate up to two elders and/or up to three deacons, or any combination of choices, including none, if you believe there are currently no qualified individuals for these offices.
Please take time to review the relevant passages of Scripture as noted above and prayerfully consider who God may have placed among us for such a responsibility. If you have questions or need further help, consider listening to my sermon on eldership here, and on deacons here. I am also available for discussion.
